For standard consults the cost is $190 with an approximately $84 Medicare rebate. Regarding extended 30 minute consults which relate to jaw surgery, trauma and major pathology the cost is $230, also with a Medicare rebate of $84. You are not able to claim any further rebate from your health fund. Please note these are Medicare items and your dental insurance will pay no extra. Consult payments are due at the time of consult.

A quote for surgical services are provided to patients at the time of their consult along with an estimate form including procedure item numbers and costs. The practice is unable to give estimates of costs over the phone prior to consult.

For hospital procedures the surgical fees are due 5 working days prior to surgery and for in room procedures fees are payable on the day of treatment.

The practice does not provide payment plans for surgery. If you forecast financial difficulty please discuss this with our Practice Manager.

Ideally you should have a referral prior to your consult as this enables you to access a Medicare rebate. The referral can be obtained via your Dentist, Medical GP, Orthodontist or other Medical Specialist. A referral ascertains the reason for the consult, if a valid referral is not obtained you will not be able to claim the Medicare rebate.

An X-Ray enables the surgeon to assess the health and position of your teeth and jaws which is crucial for planning and performing Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. If you are referred for a soft tissue lesion you will most likely not have a X-Ray.

A consultation is needed prior to surgery to complete a surgical assessment, discuss your treatment options and medical history and also allow for you to ask questions you may have before surgery. It is also nice to meet in person the individual who is performing your surgery although telemedicine is an option. The practice can also provide you with financial details as well as relate item numbers and then book a surgical date if needed.

Bundoora, Heidelberg, Essendon and Camberwell are the sites for consultations.

Warringal Private Hospital, Northpark Private and Epworth Freemasons Private Hospital ( Albert St, East Melbourne) are the venues for day surgery and inpatient procedures.

Heidelberg and Bundoora rooms are available for local anaesthetic procedures.

You can be admitted as a self-funded patient and the practice will give you an estimate prior to surgery which is paid upon your hospital admission. Please note this is an estimate only and is not a firm quote. The practice will do our best to get an accurate fee for your admission prior to surgery.

If you are having a General Anaesthetic in hospital you will need a carer to collect you upon discharge and be with you for 24 hours post-surgery. If you are having a Local Anaesthetic in the rooms you do not need a carer and can drive yourself to and from the appointment if you a comfortable with that approach. The other option is to have someone take you home.

If patients are under the age of 18 parents can stay with their child for day procedures. If an overnight admission is required parents are able to stay with the child. If the patient is over the age of 18 parents are not permitted to stay unless there are special circumstances. Please call our Practice Manager to discuss further.

If you are visiting our Heidelberg or Essendon rooms there is street parking. For consultations at Bundoora and Camberwell there is onsite parking including disabled parking. For all hospitals there is onsite parking available at your cost.
